So last week I had the opportunity to shoot at a friends new studio he is setting up. It felt like the perfect chance to quickly put together an idea that I’d had stuck in my head for a few weeks after watching Andrea Arnolds adaptation of the film Wuthering Heights. My interest in the film even got me in touch with photographer Agatha Nitecka who shot photographs for the film and we had a nice chat about what it was like working on the set of an art house film and with actress Kaya Scodelario – previous “Effy” in skins and it was really awesome hearing stories that she brought to life in her photographs.

After storyboarding some ideas and inspiration I got having chatted with Agatha – as well as watching and rewatching the film I got together with my team and put together an emotion filled fashion editorial. Don’t want to spill the beans about it too much since it’s a submission and I’m waiting to hear back from some online magazines – but I wanted to show you guys who my “Heathcliff” and “Catherine” were.

More coming soon

Emily Greene @ D1 editorial test

A couple weeks ago I posted some behind the scenes shots from my editorial test with Emily. She’s represented by D1 Models in London – a great agency with a defined taste for their girls and guys. It was a total blast shooting with her and the team. We decided on a location in South Kensington that was fairly close to my flat so we did hair and make up at mine and taxi’d our way over to the location with suitcases full of looks and a blanket to keep Emily warm during down time (it was definitely chilly even with the sun out!)

Hope you enjoy the imagery! x

Reportage for Oxfam’s shoot with Daphne Selfe and photographer Perou

Last month I had the opportunity to shoot behind the scenes for Oxfam’s publicity shoot with 83 year old super model Daphne Selfe and internationally known photographer Perou. The shoot was at Street Studios just outside of the Haggerston overground station – an amazing large cove set up with a large octobox for light. Luckily the studio had great natural light for me to shoot hair and make up, set ups, and even a little bit during the actual shoot. It was great to meet both Daphne and Perou as they are big icons in the fashion and creative world – but was an added pleasure to have met Charlotte Hayward as well who was responsible for Emma Watson’s makeup during the Harry Potter series. I was definitely surrounded by some of our industries best – and sweetest royalty. :)

Have a look at some of the images below. Cheers!

Ps I also managed to shoot a nice portrait of Perou himself – in his element :)

Emily Greene @ D1 model management

Hey guys!
Today I shot with Emily Greene from D1 in London. Melissa contacted me about two weeks ago and said she had an idea for a shoot – so we got planning and thanks to the bank Holiday/Easter weekend, we finally got time to do it.

Originally the shoot was going to be a bit more urban 90s inspired but turned out to be a bit of 60s chic with lots of colors and effortless beauty. We shot in South Kensington about 10 minutes from the station – really just on the doorstep of the studio that I work at during the week and it’s safe to say it was a big success. Emily was the perfect model and the looks were great.

We will be releasing images mid next week but here are some behind the scenes snaps that I took during the day :)

An intimate look at BORA AKSU AW12

It was my second season at London Fashion Week this February. After meeting the lovely BORA AKSU team last year I was invited to shoot backstage for their press department covering Spring/Summer 12. My first experience at any sort of fashion week, let alone shooting backstage for someone as well known as BORA AKSU who’s been showing on schedule for the last ten years was overwhelming but in a good way. It was great, the energy, the organization and seeing so many different teams working together for a short 8 minutes of pure beauty walking down the catwalk – just breath taking.

So, having made my way back to London just a week before Autumn/Winter shows, I was invited a second time to shoot backstage at the BORA AKSU show. In a way I was much more comfortable behind the camera because I knew what to expect – the hustle and bustle shooting hair and make up, practice and then while they were walking. Nonetheless I got very anxious while shooting because I knew that I wanted to see how much I could improve from shooting my last show. And I think it showed as I knew what I had to do to get the shots. It’s not always about trying to get that candid shot – sometimes, for press purposes you need to get up in the action and make your presence known so that you can get certain shots. This season I did more of that to please the team – but I also kept to my style of BTS shooting and made it creative and very low key – not in your face posey. Hope it shows :)

Megan Stewart – beauty testing

So while I was back in Florida for the holidays I tried to keep shooting as much as possible. The first real thing I got about doing was this test shoot with Megan Stewart who is starting to Model in Orlando. My friend and I came up with the concept after finding the stones that are styled in the shoot. It was great fun and I enjoyed working with Megan a lot – she was really outgoing and happy to have liquid latex on her face!

So yeah, that’s just one of the few shoots I did in Florida over the Christmas/New year holidays. I will be uploading more within the week. Also – if you’re wondering why I’m just posting these now…well I had some minor issues with my login to the blog and eventually got so wrapped up in being back home with my family and friends between January and February that I just kept on shooting. Believing it would work itself out – here I am! Back in action and properly working and living in London again. I’ve worked with some great people in the past few weeks and can’t wait to post about it. However I do have to wait until submissions are sent out and received/published before I can mention it :) Top secret

Cheers for now

BORA AKSU pre-autumn 2012

Last week I shot London Fashion Week designer Bora Aksu’s first ever pre collection. His pre-autumn collection remains very ‘bora’ in its drapery and choice of fabric and materials. Hilary Alexander comments “Prairie meets Goddess” while she skims over his collection in the studio just two weeks previous. I was uber excited to shoot this even if it was more a straight forward type of studio shoot that required less direction and creativity then I’m used to incorporating into my shoots. He and his brand director Antony Waller wanted something very simple and minimal photography wise so with just one light source and a 2x2meter soft box I was able to create something like this :)

I also was assisted on this shoot by Sarah Henriques who is Bora’s PR intern – she held a silver reflector opposite the soft box to light the detail on the left side of the garments. We shot this at Pixley Studios in Westferry – really a great deal (100 quid) for the whole day and they supplied two bowens heads and studio materials like the colorama, stands, soft boxes, etc. All in all I am super stoked with the way this turned out and it’s featured on Bora Aksu’s website in his collections section as well as London Fashion Week online. Two great places to have work :)

Pins and Needles

Hey guys. I figured I’d upload this set of images even though Who’s Jack was awesome enough to feature them on their front page because there’s a few in here that weren’t selected. I shot these before I was contacted by Madeliene Ayers who’s coat is photographed below this post and actually met her through shooting this since they all attend Ravensbourne University. The designers name is Sophie Malmagrem and she is a 2nd year at Ravensbourne originally from Sweden. The models name is Jessica Gowans who is also a 2nd year at Ravensbourne but unlike Sophie is studying print and textile design. This shoot like all that have come about since I’ve met a few people at Ravensbourne was spur of the moment – I was contacted the night before by Sophie and we shot super early in the morning again. I wish I knew more to say about her garments but all I remember is that the print on the skirt was inspired by some art deco print that she came about during her studies. Working with Sophie and Jess was a dream – totally relaxed and happy to shoot in the windy winter air (even though I understand its really mild right now for December in London)

We used a reflector for some fill light but other than that it’s all natural and luckily enough, the garment actually behaved really well in the sunlight. I imagined it would be shooting all kinds of flares and reflections right into the lens but I am super happy with the way these turned out and excited to see what Sophie designs in the future. Happy 2nd post!

Cheers

She Ran

This story was shot near Vauxhall Bridge in South London. I was contacted by a womenswear student at Ravensbourne University that was friends with a few girls I’d shot for the previous week and she asked me to shoot this for her and the coat she’d designed. Her name is Madeleine Ayers and she drew inspiration from the widely known tailoring genius Hardy Amies in this piece and has included a minimalistic design with a definite androgynous feel. She wanted a wearable piece that was chic and neither overly feminine or overly masculine. I think she did a great job! From the images she wanted to show its wearablitiy and form and I am really happy with the outcome. And I really enjoyed shooting this for her – it was difficult shooting in between rain showers and next to no light – it was extremely early as well, I think we began shooting at 7:30am. But yeah this is my first blog post for Who’s Jack so that’s awesome :) Definitely excited to keep posting.

Cheers
